When you fly somewhere you’re allowed one carry-on and one personal item. I used to think a personal item meant one thing – one item, as the name would seem to imply. It’s definitely handy to be able to bring a personal item with you to keep under the seat in front of you so you have easy access to a few things you’ll likely want to get at while on the plane, without needing to go into your larger carry-on in the bin above you (and still have room for your feet).
